Uprising Festival | Voices of Resilience Writers Workshop

  • Brixton House 385 Coldharbour Lane London, England, SW9 8GL United Kingdom (map)

About the workshop

Imagine a space where stories of resilience and joy intertwine, where the rich tapestry of the Windrush and Brixton riots ignites creativity across generations. Our writing workshop invites the community to reflect on their past while using their imagination to shape a hopeful future. Together, we can celebrate our history, empower ourselves through words, and inspire one another to create a legacy of strength and positivity. Join us on this journey of discovery & expression.

This creative writing workshop will utilise various writing prompts and exercises to help participants develop their voice and express themselves freely. At the end of the session, those who feel led to share what they create will have an opportunity to share, if they feel led to.

  • Materials will be provided

  • No previous writing experience is required

Nicole Reid, Workshop Facilitator

My name is Nicole Reid, I am a storyteller, poet & author who uplfits hearts through my words. My work shines a light on life’s triumphs & struggles, inviting you to embrace authenticity & find strength in faith. I believe the power of our stories, in our voices changes lives.

I am the author of So, You Think I’m Superwoman? My journey of ivercoming divorce and starting a new chapter, Words Never Said - My first poetry book, Quarantine Time & Lines - my second poetry book written during lockdown & Glowing with my Greys - A journal for black women to begin their journey of embracing their grey hairs.

I believe that we all have stories that need to be told, even if that is just to ourselves. I want to share my knowledge with others so that they too can express themselves, navigate through the highs and lows of life and ultimately not have any boundaries or limitations when it comes to documenting their words & views.

You don’t need a degree you just need to make time and space to write and document how you feel, what’s happening or whatever comes to mind. There is also no right or wrong way to write. We all connect differently to things based on our own experiences and connections. My workshops are always an encouragement for people to express themselves rather than telling you how to write.
