Samantha Russell is an interdisciplinary artist and textile designer.
Samantha explores the intersections of heritage, culture, and anti-colonial methodologies. Her work is grounded in traditional hand-crafted textile techniques and materials that originate from Africa and the Caribbean. One of the elements of Samantha's practice is the use of natural indigo dye, a material steeped in history and symbolic significance. The belief in the power of sharing knowledge and skills, through workshops, as a means of preserving cultural heritage and nurturing dialogue is central to her creative practice. In each workshop, Samantha strives to create an inclusive and engaging environment where participants can not only learn practical skills but also deepen their understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of the materials they are working with.
